How do I care for Home Sweet Bungalow hand-painted shower curtains?
Wash in cold water
Each
shower curtain is preshrunk before oil paints are applied and heat-set
to ensure permanency. Curtains can be washed in the gentle cycle
using cold water and laundry soap without bleach or brighteners (Woolite,
for example). We use curtains that have not been chemically processed—this helps the paints adhere to the fabric. Your
curtain was made to our specifications and preshrunk; you get a high
quality curtain that won’t be too short if washed.
Dry on low heat
You
may dry the curtain on the lowest heat or hang to dry. When ironing
the curtain, use a pressing cloth, especially over any part of the
fabric that is painted—a
lightweight towel or old white sheet work well as a pressing cloth.
If the curtain is heavily wrinkled, iron on the backside before
ironing on the front. Ironing on a damp towel helps get out stubborn
wrinkles.
Do NOT dry clean
Dry cleaning solvents will damage the paints and design on your curtain.
You may notice cotton canvas shower curtains from major retailers
that have dry cleaning instructions—dry cleaning keeps the
cotton canvas from shrinking. We found shrinkage of four to seven
inches in length in our tests of washing and drying sample canvas
curtains from manufacturers. Your curtain is preshrunk.
Use a fabric liner
These
curtains can be used with or without a liner. We recommend using
a fabric shower curtain liner—vinyl just doesn’t
look good—to enhance the beauty of the curtain, to prevent
mildew and to minimize washings. Fabric shower curtain liners are
inexpensive and found at major retailers. The liners are easily washed
in the washing machine. The less the shower curtain is washed, the
longer it will keep its original beauty.
Use rollerball shower curtain rings
With their roller bearings, these shower curtain rings allow the curtain
to practically float over the rod eliminating more wear and tear on
the curtain. Also, the classic style and silver color of chrome or
nickel plate are more appropriate for a period style bathroom.
What materials are used in making the shower curtains?
The shower curtains are made out of 100% cotton canvas with rustproof nickel-plated
brass grommets— there are no seams or added plastic; all edges are nicely
finished. The natural cotton fabric is not organically grown, but it is processed
without the chemicals normally used in the industry. Your curtain has been
made to our specifications, so you get a high quality and beautiful canvas
curtain.
How do I care for Home Sweet Bungalow hand-painted linen
guest towels?
Similar care applies to the guest towels as to the cotton shower
curtains:
• Wash in cold water on the gentle cycle
using laundry soap
without brightening agents (Woolite, for example).
• Dry on low heat; use a pressing cloth when ironing over painted
fabric.
• Do not dry clean; the painted design will be damaged.
